What happens

It is a listening game, not a Halloween story. Milo the kitten starts it off with his ears up, and after that every scene works the same way: a sound comes from behind a pumpkin, a hay bale, a stump or a fallen log, and Tibino works out who it is before the animal steps out. Meow, hoo hoo, squeak, caw caw, gobble gobble, ribbit, oink, woof, cluck, maa, moo, awooo. At the end Tibino goes back through all of them from memory, which is the part children join in with.

Good for

The Halloween season without any of the fright — the farm is sunny, the pumpkins are friendly and nothing jumps out. Good from about one to four, and good for a child who likes to shout the answer before the grown-up gets there.

What a child picks up

Sixteen animal sounds and the animals that make them, plus the habit of listening first and guessing afterwards.
