What happens

No music and no narrator — only Tibino, one young animal and one piece of food. He holds it out and names the colour and the food in one short sentence, "A red apple for you, little piglet!", the animal eats and makes its own real sound, and then he says it once more with a word for how it is: crunchy, juicy, sweet, yummy. It begins in the farmyard with Rosie and works outward through the garden, the woods, the zoo and the snow — blueberries for Bramble the bear cub, corn for Trudi the turkey poult, a pineapple for Zippy the zebra foal, a plum for Lumi the reindeer calf. Dilly the duckling gets the last of it and then it is goodbye.

Good for

Children from about one to four, and quiet stretches of the day — after lunch, before a nap. It is the sister episode to Tibino Feeds the Baby Animals, but the word being taught here is the food and its colour rather than the animal, so the two sit well a few days apart rather than back to back.

What a child picks up

Thirty-two fruits and vegetables together with the colour of each — red apple, green pear, purple grapes, white cauliflower — thirty-two young animals and the sound every one of them makes, and four words for what food is like: crunchy, juicy, sweet, yummy.
